PRIORITIES
Fighting poverty
Alabama is the 6th poorest state in the nation with 15% of the population living below the poverty line. It is clear that we need a drastic and aggressive change so that we can make sure that our families and neighbors have enough not only to survive, but to thrive. I support creating a universal basic income and raising the minimum wage to a livable level.

improving healthcare
Alabama has the 7th worst healthcare in the country. 17% of the population have no healthcare coverage at all. Healthcare premiums are completely out of reach for many Alabamians. As a result, life expectancy is a full 3 years shorter in Alabama than the national average and maternal mortality is the 3rd highest in the country. I support a state-run public health insurance system in Alabama accessible to everyone.
funding EDUCATION
Alabama has the 7th worst educational system in the United States. 25% of Alabamians are unable to read at a level required to accomplish normal daily tasks. The driving factor is a lack of adequate teacher pay and school funding. I support increasing teacher pay, increasing school funding and ending the school voucher system.

Military Experience
Master Sergeant Sotomayor's journey to public service began in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for 22 years. During his military career, he demonstrated unwavering dedication to the principles of integrity, service, and excellence. He held various leadership positions, including leading joint teams of Army soldiers and Air Force Airmen across nine overseas combat deployments. His leadership was marked by a commitment to teamwork, inclusivity, and an unwavering dedication to the well-being of his soldiers and Airmen.
